On August 24, the Office of National Inter-Ministerial Joint Meeting on the Implementation of Intellectual Property Strategy of State Council (“the Office”) held a meeting for experts to review and select the first batch of typical cases on building an IPR powerhouse. Responsible officials of the Office, membership units, institute and university experts and academics served as judges and selected the cases.

In the previous stage, according to the deployment at the fifth plenary of National Inter-Ministerial Joint Meeting on the Implementation of Intellectual Property Strategy of State Council, the Office collected cases concerning building an IPR powerhouse nationwide. Over 160 cases were submitted by local authorities, covering patents, trademarks, copyrights, geographic indications, new plant varieties and trade secrets and concerning the creation, utilization, protection, management and services of IPRs. Over 40 cases were initially selected and entered the phase of expert review.

At the meeting, the authorities of each case gave online presentations about the cases’ specific measures, innovative means, practical results and next-step approach, which fully reflected the positive exploration, experience and practice by local authorities in advancing the work on building an IPR powerhouse. Experts gave evaluation on cases from the perspectives of innovation, demonstration, reproducibility and effect. In the next step, the Office will do solid work in the investigation and verification of cases, opinion seeking and propaganda, bringing the role of demonstration and guidance of these cases into full play, so as to accelerate the building of an IPR powerhouse.
